Peggy & Mortimer

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with over 21 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and couples.  I began Coastal Counseling & Consulting LLC in December 2016 on a part-time basis while still working full-time elsewhere.  In July 2017, I began developing Coastal Counseling & Consulting LLC full-time.  In December 2019, I began working part-time with Lincoln County Community Justice, so I reduce my hours at Coastal Counseling & Consulting to part-time as well.

Being a licensed therapist for over 21 years has given me the opportunity to work with individuals who have experienced trauma and those who struggle with the symptoms of anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder.  I have also worked with many folks working through the aftermath of the loss of someone or something important as well as those who are struggling with being satisfied with their lives.  I have facilitated therapy sessions in community mental health clinics, non-profit clinics, and prisons.

My goal as a therapist is to assist you to address the problems and/or obstacles that are interfering with your life. I believe that everyone can learn skills to improve their satisfaction with life and lessen any mental health symptoms that may be troublesome.

Therapy is a specialized experience based on the individual and challenges being addressed. I use different techniques to help you find solutions.  This can involve examining and developing enhanced problem-solving, coping strategies, and communication skills, as well as developing realistic life expectations. In addition, I am a certified Star Behavioral Health Provider with additional training to provide services for military and their families.

I believe that interaction with pets can be healing.  My therapy dog, Mortimer, comes to work with me each day. He joins sessions if you'd like.  Mortimer is a 5-year-old registered service labradoodle who loves to interact with people.

I offer afternoon and evening appointments for those who live in Newport, South Beach, Waldport, Toledo, and surrounding areas. I am an in-network provider for several area insurances where I can bill for your services directly. For self-pay clients, I offer a free session for every three sessions attended. Secure video chat sessions are also available via doxy.me for self-pay clients and clients with insurance that covers video sessions.
